Have you all seen this video? It’s beautiful. It won an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2012. Enjoy!
Easter bunny handprint art!
I’ve gotta say, we rocked out some pretty awesome Easter bunny art this weekend. Thanks to Pinterest, we were inspired to make some hand print Easter bunnies, and I think they turned out great!
We used regular white craft paint, and painted her hand, minus the thumb. This may have been her favorite part.
We used a sponge brush to paint her hand, then a dab of pink craft paint for the ears. Add some googly eyes and puff balls for the nose (OK, maybe THIS was the new favorite part)…
We used a sharpie for the finishing touches, including the bunny glass slippers…
…which turned out to be high heels. Here’s the final product, which I adore! Happy Easter!
Valentine’s Day Heart Mobile <3
Emma and I were working in the art room this weekend when we decided it was past time to put up some Valentine’s Day decorations. Looking around for a quick, pre-nap craft, I had the idea for an easy heart mobile to hang in the dining room.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Squares of pink/red/purple paper (we used pink)
- Yarn (we used red)
- Scissors
- Tape
Step 1:
Cut out your hearts. I did this quickly, and didn’t pay much attention to uniformity. Since you’ll be sticking two together later, I suggest you do two at a time, keeping those about the same size.
Step 2:
Decorate those hearts!
Step 3: Cut your string and tape hearts! I folded a second piece of tape together to secure the second heart.
Step 4: Hang and Enjoy! I tied the strings in a loose double knot to our hanging light fixture over the table. Easy as pie!
Making a Portfolio, part 1
A nice visual reference for making a portfolio, from bookbinding.com. Click on the image to go to the site and get written instructions. Jazz it up for kids by using fun colors, stickers, etc. It’s a great way to keep up with school art, worksheets, etc. I’ll upload the one we use soon. Tie a ribbon around to keep everything nice and neat!

Potato Stamps
I love potato soup. When it’s cold out, I buy bags of potatoes on autopilot, never seeming to realize that I’ve stocked the closet with enough to feed an army, not three people. So, what’s a girl to with a bag of aging potatoes?
Stamp!
Raw potatoes make a great stamp, perfect for little hands. Martha Stewart has a great tutorial online here.
Here’s another great one from 350.org

I’ve seen this technique done before, but none as well as his . If you enjoy, check out his website!
Flying Wish Paper
Welcome 2013! Today I discovered something called Flying Wish Paper. The idea is simple: you take this special paper, write down a wish, dream or goal- anything- then set it on fire and watch it fly away! What a beautiful and fun way to say goodbye to 2012 and send our pledges and resolutions for the new year up to the sky!
