Valentine’s Day Heart Mobile <3

Emma and I were working in the art room this weekend when we decided it was past time to put up some Valentine’s Day decorations.  Looking around for a quick, pre-nap craft, I had the idea for an easy heart mobile to hang in the dining room.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Squares of pink/red/purple paper (we used pink)
  • Yarn (we used red)
  • Scissors
  • Tape

Step 1:

Cut out your hearts.  I did this quickly, and didn’t pay much attention to uniformity.  Since you’ll be sticking two together later, I suggest you do two at a time, keeping those about the same size.

Step 2:

Decorate those hearts!

Step 3:  Cut your string and tape hearts!  I folded a second piece of tape together to secure the second heart.

Step 4: Hang and Enjoy!  I tied the strings in a loose double knot to our hanging light fixture over the table.  Easy as pie!

papier-mache love

I always forget how much I love papier-mâché.  I have very fond memories of covering my hands balloon mold in elementary art class.  I still love everything about it- they way the paper and glue smell, how squishy and pliable the paper gets.  And I am still amazed at how sturdy that little heap of paper becomes after drying.

I haven’t exposed Emma to the wonderful world of paper-mâché yet. but I think it’s time.  Rest assured pictures will follow on Monday if I do.

Today I’m sharing a link to some fun paper-mâché tutorials.  This should get you through the weekend, don’t you think?
